Warri Wolves defeated Gombe United 1-0 to seal a place in the quarter final of the ongoing NFF Federation Cup in Abuja.
It took a brilliant effort from Sodiq Okunlola in the 90th minute to give Warri Wolves the lone goal victory of the game over Gombe United.
Okunlola while reacting to his heroic goal that journeyed Warri Wolves to the quarter final of the Federation Cup said he’s impressed and happy to contribute to his side win at the tail end of the game.
Okunlola who was brought into the game in the 80th minute said he had monitored the defender of Gombe United from the bench and noticed he gambles alot when with the ball so when he was brought on in the game, he decided to chase him down always and give him pressure which made the goal came in the game.
“I’m happy and impressed that we are through to the quarter final of the Federation Cup, it was a great encounter with Gombe United and we had to stand tall to get the job done in Abuja.
“When I was on the bench, I noticed that the defender of Gombe United gambles alot with the ball and I studied his style of play which made the job easy for me when I came on in the match and used the Gombe United defenders weakness to achieve my aim in the game.
“We hope this performance will motivate us to reach the final of the Federation Cup because we have come a long way not to reach the final of the tournament and winning the Federation Cup remains our topmost target.”
