The Executive Chairman of Eti-Osa Local Government, Adeola Alimot Adetoro, has pledged the full backing of the council for the successful implementation of the Nigeria Mini Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS) within the local government area.
The assurance was given during a courtesy visit by officials from the National Population Commission and the Federal Ministry of Health, who briefed the chairman on the objectives, methodology and rollout plan of the nationwide survey in Eti-Osa.
The Nigeria Mini Demographic and Health Survey is a key national data-gathering initiative aimed at providing accurate and up-to-date statistics on population dynamics, health indicators and nutrition levels. The findings are expected to guide policy formulation, strengthen programme planning and improve monitoring and evaluation of health interventions across the country. Officials explained that the collaboration between the two federal agencies is designed to ensure the collection of high-quality data that will enhance transparency, promote evidence-based decision-making and strengthen Nigeria’s health systems.
As part of the fieldwork, trained enumerators will visit selected households within sampled clusters across Eti-Osa. Data will be collected through structured questionnaires covering general household information, interviews with women aged 15 to 49 years and men aged 15 to 59 years. In addition, children between the ages of zero and five will undergo basic health assessments, including measurement of weight and height, to determine their nutritional status.
The delegation was led by the Comptroller of Eti-Osa LGA, Mr Okesanjo Isiaka Olusola, and included Team 1 Supervisor, Mr Olusoji-Afolabi Oluwatosin, and Team 2 Supervisor, Mr Kadejo Basit.
Dr Adetoro commended the initiative, describing it as a critical step toward strengthening healthcare planning and improving the well-being of residents. She emphasised that credible and reliable data remain essential for designing policies that respond effectively to the needs of the people. The chairman assured the visiting team of the council’s cooperation and support throughout the duration of the survey.
Residents of Eti-Osa are encouraged to cooperate fully with the survey teams when approached, as the information gathered will be used strictly for statistical and developmental purposes, contributing to improved health outcomes and sustainable social development within the local government area and beyond.
