In a historic milestone for grassroots engagement in Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), the Elemu Social Base Club has been officially recognized by the local government.

The presentation of the recognition certificate, held at Elemu Bus Stop, signaled a new chapter of representation, unity, and advocacy for the Elemu community.

The event drew dignitaries from Ijede LCDA and the broader Elemu community, with Alhaji Sofiu Babatunde, Head of the Department for Agriculture and Social Services, representing the Executive Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba.

Alhaji Babatunde, in his keynote address, praised the formation of community-based organizations like the Elemu Social Base Club, describing them as vital agents for peace, development, and civic engagement.

He urged the newly recognized club to remain committed to its constitution, uphold transparency, and foster cooperation among its members.

“The leaders of this club must lead with integrity and serve the people selflessly,” he stated. “This recognition comes with responsibility—responsibility to unify, to represent, and to deliver.”

Also in attendance were notable council officials, including Mrs. Funmilayo Eyinju; Mr. Idris Opeyemi Yusuf, Community Development Officer; Comrade Taiwo Tijani Faruq; and Chief Jamiu Agbaje, Joint CDA Chairman of Elemu.

Responding on behalf of the club, Mr. Adewale Vincent, the club’s President, expressed deep appreciation to the council. He recounted the motivation behind the club’s establishment, citing years of marginalization faced by the Elemu community, especially in infrastructure and political representation.

“This club is a platform for Elemu people to speak with one voice and to partner meaningfully with the government in addressing our longstanding needs,” Vincent said. “Our community is rich with capable hands ready to contribute to the development of Ijede LCDA.”

He further revealed that the club already has a councillorship aspirant from Elemu—a testament, he said, to the community’s readiness to participate in governance and decision-making.

Highlighting the significance of the occasion, the swearing-in of the club’s executive members followed, with each receiving their certificates from Alhaji Babatunde. The newly inaugurated executive team includes:

  • Mr. Atande Adewale – President
  • Mr. Akintola Olarewaju – Secretary
  • Mr. Olatunji Oladayo Samson – Public Relations Officer
  • Mrs. Ajao Adenike – Welfare and Secretary Organizer
  • Mr. Tijani Kazeem – Financial Secretary
  • Mr. Amuni Abiodun Adekunle – Treasurer
  • Alhaja Olowokere Risikat Omotolani – Golden Woman of the Club
  • Mr. Ishola Oladimeji – Golden Governor of the Club

The recognition of the Elemu Social Base Club is seen as a beacon of hope and a call to action for community members, signaling a new era of inclusion, proactive leadership, and sustained development in Ijede LCDA.
