The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has called on inhabitants of Lagos State to ensure proper environmental practices during the Eid-l-Fitr festivities.
The environmental laws agency called for adherence to Lagos State environmental laws, highlighting that a hygienic surroundings is beneficial for all.
LAGESC, through it’s Corps Marshall, Major Olaniyi Cole, (Rtd) on Monday sounded the call at the Agency’s Command Headquarters at Bolade-Oshodi, saying, “The Ramadan fast is a testament to the willingness of Muslims to adhere to the pillars of their faith and it is enjoined that cleanliness is an important religious practice in all faiths, which is why we admonish Lagosians to imbibe proper waste disposal and keep their environment clean.
“We urge Lagosians to desist from street trading, hawking in traffic, patronage of cart pushers for refuse disposal, erection of illegal structures on laybys, setbacks, medians, road verges, kerbs or around public schools in the State.
The agency’s head warned that defaulters will be made to face the consequences via prosecution in a competent court of appropriate jurisdiction.
“We also admonish Lagosians to make proper use of pedestrian bridges for their safety in the stead of crossing highways to prevent accidental cases.
“The Lagos State Government prohibits the conversion of pedestrian bridges to sleeping areas. Such act deters the state’s transit and anyone caught will be made to face the law.
Cole also revealed that the agency has recorded giant strides in alleviating criminal acts in pedestrian bridges across Lagos as daily arrests have been made alongside securing prosecution on lawbreakers at the court.
