The Lagos State commissioner for transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi has disclosed a technology driven E-Call Up System will be rolled out to combat the incessant traffic congestion caused by the increasing number of articulated trucks on the Lekki-Epe road network.

Osiyemi said in a national television interview that the rising volume of trucks in the area will make the E-Call Up System essential for proactive traffic management.

“We currently have between 360 and 400 trucks operating in the corridor daily, but projections show that the number could rise significantly – with Dangote Refinery alone capable of dispatching 3,000 to 4,000 trucks once operations reach full capacity,” he said.

Osiyemi emphasized that this streamlined process will significantly reduce illegal parking, improve traffic flow, enhance security, and protect road infrastructure along the busy corridor.

The E-Call Up System aims to prevent road chaos by regulating truck movements through a structured scheduling framework.

This decision comes as the Lekki-Epe area, home to significant investments like the Dangote Refinery, Lekki Deep Sea Port, and various oil and gas installations, experiences a surge in industrial and commercial activities. With only one primary exit route, this growth has severely worsened traffic.

The Commissioner highlighted this initiative as another crucial step by the State Government to transform transportation and logistics management in Lagos, particularly in rapidly expanding industrial zones like the Lekki-Epe axis. He urged all stakeholders to comply voluntarily with the new system.
