A man identified as Danladi Umar is on trial for an alleged reckless driving and manslaughter charged against him by the Police.
At the Badagry Magistates’ Court, the prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuiomose, told Magistate Nurudeen Layeni that the defendant, who earns his living as a driver, committed the offence on Feb.4, at about 7.45pm at Magbon Bus Stop, on Lagos-Badagry expressway.
Okuiomose said that the accused drove dangerously in a Boxer Bus with registration number SMK 391 YA, and recklessly rammed the vehicle against one Oyelowo Ashade causing her demise.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 18 and 27 of RTA CAP 124, Law of Lagos State of Nigeria.
The defendant pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Layeni admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He ruled that one of the sureties must be a community leader while the other must be a religious leader in his community.
The trial is scheduled to continue on March 14.
