A hotel supervisor in Isolo local council area, Mr. Uche Amomie, has expressed his displeasure over the closure of street gates as a measure against insecurity, claiming that the strategy affects hotel business and other round-the-clock businesses in the community.

As observed, one of the common means of tackling insecurity by most Community Development Associations (CDAs) in their communities is prohibiting movement to and fro the enclosed streets from late hours in the night till dawn; a pattern that has been described as detrimental to night businesses in the community.

Speaking with our correspondent, Amomie stated that the police should be allowed to carry out intense security surveillance rather than restricting movement without considering businesses who make sales at night.

He said: “As it is being done in other developed and developing communities, business like ours get busier late in the night even amidst intense security surveillance which gives the customers great sense of security, but it is not the same here. Once it is dusk, most gates leading to the community are locked, denying access to prospective customers. This is not supposed to be so.”

He, however, appealed to the local government and Community Development Associations to subscribe to developmental approach of combating insecurity by having more security personnel patrolling at night in order to secure lives and properties instead of the ‘old costly system.’
