Delta Queens has named Taiwo Afolabi as their new captain according to sources who craved anonymity.
Afolabi joined the Asaba based club two seasons ago and she has established herself as a starter in the club’s first team.
Taiwo came into the limelight as she was part of the Nigeria U17 (Flamingos) squad to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India where they came third by beating powerhouses USA and Germany.
The midfield maestro scored one of the best goal at the U17 World Cup tournament with a ferocious right footed strike from 25 yards against New Zealand.
Taiwo has been promoted to the U20 team as she was part of the Super Falconets squad to the Wafu B U20 tournament in Ghana where they came second behind the host country.
She won the player of the match award for her elegant display against Burkina Faso at the 2023 Wafu B U20 tournament in Kumasi.
The influential midfielder capped up an impressive season as she won the 2023 NWFL Premiership title with Delta Queens.
Taiwo will lead Delta Queens to the Wafu B Champions League in Benin as they aim to qualify for the CAF Champions League in Ivory Coast in November.
