CY Unity Cup to commence Oct 2nd

The much awaited 9th edition of CY Unity Cup will commence on October 2, 2021 at Owoseni field, Oshodi.

The tournament which will feature 64 teams in different locations in Lagos is a grassroots tournament tagged ‘grassroots World cup’ because of the caliber of teams that will be participating in the tournament.

The zones to be used for the tournament are Jalisco stadium Oshodi, Ejigbo mini stadium, Owoseni field Oshodi, Igbowu mini stadium Ilasamaja, Joju field Sango Ota and Ikorodu.

Speaking to ECHONEWS, the organiser of the tournament, Cyprian Ukpai said this year’s edition which is the 9th will be more colourful than previous ones as security will be on ground to avert any violence on the pitch of play.

Ukpai added that the use of different zones for this year’s edition is to accommodate teams that are far away from Oshodi so that they can have the opportunity to participate in the tournament.

The defending champion of the tournament, Jogo C FC, won the previous edition in 2019, 5-4 in penalty shootout, defeating FC Brave to emerge champions of the 8th edition.

Jogo C FC will be kick starting the campaign by defending their crown in the 9th edition as they are expected to retain their crown as the king of the competition.

Jogo C FC will play the opening match of the tournament against De Royal FC at Owoseni field Oshodi as they begin their journey to become the only team that will successfully defend the trophy.
