A security officer identified as Stanley has been shot dead during an attack by suspected gunmen at Royale Estate in the Sangotedo area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday night when two unidentified men arrived at the estate on a motorcycle and opened fire before fleeing the area.
A source familiar with the incident said the attackers arrived between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. and targeted Stanley, who was on duty as a security officer.
The source, who requested anonymity, alleged that the victim was shot several times, including in the head.
“They just stormed the estate and started shooting. Stanley, the security man on duty, was shot several times, and in the head too, before they shot in the air and fled the area,” the source said.
The incident has generated reactions on social media, with some posts and videos alleging that suspected cult members were responsible for the attack.
However, the Lagos State Police Command has not confirmed that the shooting was cult-related.
The command’s spokesperson, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the incident on Monday, saying preliminary information showed that Stanley was attacked by two unidentified men riding a motorcycle.
According to Adebisi, the police have launched an investigation into the killing, but no suspect has been arrested.
The police have also not disclosed the motive for the attack or established any link between the suspects and a cult group.
