Covid-19 lockdown: Gbeleyi supports teachers with N500,000

To cushion the effect of the lockdown on the private school teachers, the former House of Assembly aspirant in Oshodi Constituency 1, Hon. Adebanji Gbeleyi ( Skibanj) has given 100 teachers in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area (LGA) N5,000 each as palliatives to ease their situation.
The private school teachers has not received salary since March when the government ordered the closure of schools to curb spreading of Covid-19 among the students.
While disbursing the funds to the beneficiaries on Saturday, Gbeleyi said the initiative was to complement the effort of the Lagos State Government and individuals who have been giving palliatives to the needy especially the teachers to encourage them for their role in nation building and their services to humanity in the community.
Gbeleyi, who disclosed that he had also worked as a teacher for 11 years, said felt the challenges faced by the teachers especially at a period when they were not receiving salaries for months due to the shutdown of schools caused by coronavirus pandemic.
He therefore directed that a WhatsApp platform be created for the teachers who benefited from the largesse for further communication.
The Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Hon. Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh, who was represented at the occasion by the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Ganiu Mejidande, commended Gbeleyi for assisting the governments in their duties.
He said the local government has also done the same for some teacher, promising to continue the programme for other teachers to benefit.
The Special Adviser ( SA) to the former Lagos State Governor, Hon. Taiwo Aiyedun (Shanana) stated that the donor has shown a sign of leadership with numerous projects he has done in the community.

Raphael Oluwatosin who represented All Progressives Congress (APC) party chairman, Oshodi-Isolo LG, Alhaji Olamide Kasali, commended Gbeleyi for reaching out to the teacher at this challenging time, describing him as a pace setter who has gone out of his way to put similes on the faces of teachers.
Appreciating their benefactor, Mrs. Olabisi Odukoya, a teacher of Old-View Primary School, Mafoluku Oshodi, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, said the support was times as it came at the time they needed it most.
The teachers who were all full of joy prayed for Gbeleyi, promising to reciprocate the good gesture as and when due.
