Following the persistent increase in the number of Covid-19 positive cases in Oshodi-Isolo LGA, the chairman of Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Shamsudeen Olaleye (Shammeh) has flagged off a new sensitisation campaign against the virus.

Tagged “Intensive Advocacy and Sensitization on Transition to Home Based Care of Asymptomatic or Mild positive Case Of COVID-19.”, the proramme was unveiled during an emergency meeting with the Community Development committee (CDC) at the council Secretariat.

Olaleye stressed the need to rewrite the narratives of the virus in the council as directed by the state government.

“Recent figures have placed Oshodi-Isolo LGA among the 18 LGAs with prevailing cases of COVID-19 and as a government, we have a responsibility to re-write the narratives.”It was easy to monitor cases at the early stage. But the need not to create panic prompted us not to raise red flag when the number started rising. We must face the hard fact. that COVID-19 is here with us. We must change our mindset. COVID-19 is real,” said the council chairman, informing that henceforth, the meeting will be regular.

Equally speaking, the CDC chairman, Mr. Adesegun Olatunde, said the emergency meeting was summoned to sensitise Community Development Associations (CDAs) and community leaders on measures to curtail the wide spread of COVID-19 cases in the council area.

According to him, as the lowest level of government, the CDC also has a great role to play in the fight against coronavirus hence, the need to sensitise the residents through each CDA on how to tame community spread of the virus and also the transition into home based cure for asymptomatic cases of the virus since isolation centres are running out of space.

He therefore implored the residents to keep observing all preventive measures to curtail the spread of the virus, affirming that the Primary Healthcare Centres PHCs have been equipped with trained personnel and equipments needed to effectively handle asymptomatic cases of.

He said: “People are no longer observing the laid down guidelines thinking that the pandemic is over. This is far from being true. That is why the number of the infected patients is rising daily. We are the ones transmitting this virus from person to person.”
