COVID 19: Dawodu distributes sanitizers, warns against local gin cure

The member of the Federal House of Representatives ,Oshodi Isolo constituency 1,Dr. Bashiru Dawodu has distributed sanitizers to his constituents and urged them to comply with social distance and isolation policies of the government in line with efforts to check the spread of the pandemic.

 

Addressing a press conferecnce at his constituency office , Rep Dawodu said his mandate includes educating members of his constituency on the nature of the pandemic and how to stay safe.

 

He presented cartons of sanitizers to be distributed to people and shared fliers to enlighten them on preventive measures.

 

“Everybody has to sacrifice by abiding by the rules of stay at home and other precautionary measures to curb the spread of the virus and to keep surveillance by advising anyone with the symptoms to go for a test.”

 

During the press conference, he disclosed that 80 percent of people with the virus are without symptoms such as high temperature,headache, cough,sneezing and body pains.

 

While 20 percent of affected patients have the symptoms and that it gets severe when the breathing is affected which finally leads to death.

 

He advised that people should avoid contact with patients cough and sneezing droplets which is the major means of contacting the virus.

 

People are educated to keep three to six feet distance from each other and to practice social distancing as a way of staying safe from getting the virus.

 

Stating that the Coronavirus strives more in cold climate than tropical (hot) environment, Dawodu debunked alleged claims in the social media that alcohol (Ogogoro) ,garlic, onions and others serves as a cure to the disease. He added that  the virus has no cure for now but can be suppressed.

 

“Currently, we are working on immunization vaccine to prevent infection but for the meantime, people should avoid crowded places such as churches, mosques, clubs and social gathering.” he said.

 

He advised persons experiencing the symptoms to go to any nearby General hospital for a test because primary healthcare centres do not have the equipment.
