The Ejigbo/Isolo branch of the Lagos State Barbers Association (LASBA),  the umbrella body of all barbers in Lagos State, has reacted to rumors that the use of a clipper for more than one client can transmit COVID-19.

They said the standard procedures put in place for sterilising clippers before barbing a client are still in force and all members have been sensitised to ensure strict compliance.

Echonews visited  barber shops  to monitor compliance and observed howp each and everyone of them sterilized their clippers after use which is a standard hygenic practice before using it on other customers.

Speaking to Echonews,Lukman Idowu who runs a barbing outlet in Ejigbo said  before the outbreak of COVID-19,barbers have been practicing methods of hygiene to curb any transmission of diseases by sterilizing the equipment.

He said they also advise customers on the use and application of hair creams which could harm and be of good treatment to their hair.

“Aside from this it could  be ,physically seen that most  barbers now have more than one hair steriliser and use sterilising machine which is used to sterilise our clippers before and after barbing our customers.”

Besides, he said  after shave liquid steriliser is a must for every barbing outlet as it helps to prevent hair scalp, skin cut and diverse diseases during hair cut.

He said these methods have been put in place  to prevent customers from contacting any disease.

The Secretary of artisans in Isolo,Mr.Adewunmi Oladimeji Julius who also heads the local barbers’ association confirmed that the association has been monitoring members to make sure that clippers and other barbing equipment are treated before use.

He said the measures have been re-inforced following the outbreak of COVID-19.

He acclaimed that as he his concern barbers are not left behind in taking adequate measures most especially during this period of Covid-19.

“If i must say the truth,we’ve been original, organised in the mode of our operation,as we educate our customers on how to take care of their hair by introducing them to hair treatments which could benefit them personally.”

In a bid to buttress Lukman expressed opinions he affirms that no barber in Lagos uses one clipper as it ridicules the nature of the business if faced with more than two customers.

He unveils that some customers who use personal clipper find it difficult to get sterilising packages and their their individual barbers still help to provide this in order to secure and prevent their customers from infections.
