Court Remands Woman For Assaulting Husband With Broken Plate

A 34-year-old woman, Njoku Chioma, has been arrested and arrainged before the Surulere  Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegely assaulting her husband with a broken plate.

Njoku, a resident at No 16, Ayo-Elegbede St, Aguda Surulere, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of assault and damage to property imposed on him by the police.

The prosecutor, Inspector Courage Ekhueorohan, told the court on Monday that Njoku committed the offences on April 6, at No 17 Adeonitimiri Cresent in Surulere.

Ekhueorohan alleged that Njoku hit her husband with a broken plate on his head after being told of her husband engaging in promiscuity.

The prosecutor, noting that the couple were on the brink of a divorce before the incident, explained that the defendant willfully damaged two Lexus cars with Lagos registration number EKY 526 EU and YAB 669 GG belonging to her husband. He said the suspect used a heavy object to break the front and rear screens and the side mirrors, all actions violating sections 173 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

While adjourning the case till May 16 for commencement of substantive trial, the Magistrate, Oluwatosin Otitoju, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000, with two responsible sureties in like sum.

Otitoju ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation and have their house addresses verified by the court.

Elsewhere, A man identified as Martins Kelinho is on trial for stealing property items belonging to his neighbour.

At the Badagry Magistrates’ Court, Kelinho was accused of theft of the items valued at N420,500.

The court puts Kelinho on a three-count charge of conspiracy, housebreaking and stealing as submitted by the Police.

He pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuiomose, however, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with others still at large on April 15 at 8 p.m at Gemede Ajido, Ebute Olofin area of Badagry.

Okuiomose said that the 20 year-old defendant broke into the house of the complainant, one Omomimi Kolawole, and stole the items.

He said the alleged offender was caught by some neighbours who handed him over to the police.

The Magistate, Daniel Aina, granted the defendant bail of N200,000, with two sureties in like sum.

The court adjourned the case until May 21.
