The Magistrates’ Court in Ikeja has remanded two businessmen over allegations of importing fake condoms.

Following an arrangement by the Police, the accused, Emeka Daniel, 32, and Ugochukwu Eze, 35, were slammed a three count charge of conspiracy, forgery and perversion of Justice which they pleaded not guilty to.

However, the Prosecutor, Josephine Ikhayere, maintained that the duo alongside others not yet arrested commited the offences on June 23 by importing fake Kiss condom into the country.

Ikhayere mentioned that the defendants perverted justice by aiding and preventing the apprehension of the co-importer and seller of the item.

The Prosecutor said that all alleged offences contravened the provisions of sections 97(1), 362 and 412 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015, stating that Section 362 prescribes three years’ imprisonment for anyone found guilty of forgery while section 97(1) prescribes two years imprisonment for anyone found guilty of perverting justice.

Magistrate Lafeef Owolabi, during the procedings in Friday, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N500,000.

Owolabi also ordered them to provide two reliable sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until August 21.
