Court Remands 35yr Old Man Over Alleged N3.7M Fraud

The Magistrates’ Court in Badagry, Lagos, has remanded one Hilary Nnakwe over alleged offence of fraud amounting to N3.7 million naira.
Nnakwe, who is on trial on charges bordering on fraud, was said to have acquired the money under false pretences, thereby, contravening the state’s laws.
The Prosecutor, Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant, on October 14, obtained the money from one Olanrewaju Olajire, a supervisor at Mav Dav petrol station in Badagry, under the pretence of paying back and absconded.
Ekpo, who stated that the alleged offences is a violation to the provisions of Section 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, stated that the accused is standing trial on charges bordering on fraud.
“The management of the filling station traced him to his house, apprehended him and handed over him to police for prosecution,” the Prosecutor said.
Nnakwe pleaded not guilty.
In reaction, the Magistrate, Nurudeen Layeni, granted the defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum, adding that one of the sureties must be a director of a company.
Layeni adjourned the case till February 5, 2026.
