The Police in Lagos have arraigned a suspect, Ibrahim Yakubu, over an alleged act of fraud in the sum of N1,150,000 in Badagry area, Lagos.
Yakubu, 49, is on trial on a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.
At the Badagry Magistates’ Court, the suspect was said to have obtained the sum under false pretences on December 6, 2022 at about 3:90pm on at N0 98, Timmy Jas Street, Ajara area, Badagry.
The prosecutor, ASP Clement Okuoimose, told the court that the accused obtained the money from one Pam John, the complainant, under pretence of buying a Toyota Corolla car for him.
Okuoimose said that the accused failed to purchase the car for the complainant and converted the money to his personal use.
The offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Thereafter, the court ranted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties were mandated to be gainfully employed and must show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
The matter was adjourned till July 11.
