Court Postpones Drug Baron’s Trial Over Ill-Health

A case against an alleged drug dealer, Jimoh Olowoidigede, has been adjourned due to his ill-health.

Justice Deinde Dipeolu, at the Federal High Court on Monday, postponed the case till Tuesday.

The suspect is facing trial on a six count charge bordering on conspiracy, trafficking 704 kilograms of cannabis sativa, running a drug trafficking organization and money laundering – all preferred against him by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.

According to the NDLEA, the offences contravened Sections 20(1)(g); 14(b); 18(a); 20(i); 11(b) and 11(c) of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Act Cap N30 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 200

The defendant pleaded not guilt.

Prior to the accused most recent arraignment on November 1, the prosecution has so far called 11 witnesses in the matter. The court, thereafter, refused the bail application filed by the defendant.

The matter resumed at the court on Monday. Prosecution team lead, Theresa Asuquo, was joined by Lambert Nor while Benson Ndakara, leading Kate Igbo and Evans Ajoku, appeared as defense counsel.

Asuquo told the judge that she expected the suspect to be in court but was amazed at his absence. In response, an official of the Ikoyi Correctional Centre, where the litigant was remanded, Martin Odu, informed that the defendant was feeling under the weather and was admited to the facility’s clinic.

A medical report was presented to the court to affirm Odu’s submission.

Justice Dipeolu, thereafter, ruled that the case continues on Tuesday.
