Justice Dipeolu Deinde of the Federal High Court in Ikeja Lagos has convicted a man to 25 years imprisonment following his arraignement by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA for drug peddling.
NDLEA prosecuted the offender, Freeman Ogbonna, after his arrest at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Ikeja.
The NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, said that Ogbonna vomited and excreted 80 wraps of cocaine after three months of his arrest by the agency.
Babafemi disclosed that the convict, who was to earn N300,000 if he was successful peddling the drug, was arrested on Sunday, March 31, 2024. He said the offender attempted to board a flight to Delhi in India via Qatar Airways, using a Liberian passport under the name Carr Bismark.
He said, “Preliminary checks revealed his real identity as Freeman Charles Ogbonna, and he was subsequently placed under observation in the NDLEA custody, where he started to manifest signs of discomfort.
“Obviously choked by the volume of illicit drugs in his stomach and another substance taken to hold back excretion, the suspect soon began to retch before starting to vomit and excrete wraps of cocaine he ingested almost simultaneously.
“The suspect who claimed he was recruited into drug trafficking by one of his relatives eventually passed out a total of 80 wraps of cocaine weighing 889 grammes through his mouth and anus over a period of four days.”
NDLEA stated that a body scan was conducted on the jailer and affirmed that he had ingested illicit drugs.
