The Legislative arm of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) plans to propose bill on primary health centres to help the operations of the health centres at this period of pandemic.

The Council Leader, Hon. Lanre Akinbowale, told ECHONEWS that as the lockdown is being relaxed, the legislative arm would spring into action as the plenary session resumes on Tuesday, May 5, 2020, saying the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) and Supervisor for Health would be invited to explain the situation of the PHCs in the local council.

He added that the councilors would legislate on the findings, make a resolution and pass it to the executive chairman.

His words: “We are going to swing into full action on finding a way to reduce as much as possible the spread of COVID-19 within our community.

“Because we are at the stage of community spread, so, firstly we are going to invite the MOH and the Supervisor for Health to find out from them, how they have been managing the situation in our LCDA.

“We will ask them about the number of cases we have in Ejigbo, we will go on oversight function to all the PHCs in Ejigbo LCDA. And at the end of it all a resolution will be passed to the executive arm of the government for implementation.

“We are also going to propose the provision for free nose guard to our people. We will do a kind of public enlightenment in our wards on the COVID-19.

“Most importantly, this global pandemic has affected the revenue of the council in terms of federal allocation and IGR and governance has to continue. So, we will be looking inward for an alternative way to generate revenue for the government. I’m already talking to some economy analysts.

“We might likely organise a lecture for our people on how to survive the post COVID-19 economic problems.”
