The Chairman of Badagry West LCDA, Rauf Kayode, has launched a major environmental sanitation initiative at community’s boarder communities.
Kayode disclosed that the motive behind the exercise was to create a befitting surrounding as it acts as the front door of Nigeria.
The Chairman mentioned that the sight at the boarder areas is what people see and believe about the country, thus, emphasizing on the need to ensure proper cleaniness and serenity at the scene.
Kayode, while inspecting the exercise which began from Gbaji Bridge down to the Seme Border alongside Zongo community and the J4/J5 market hammered on hygiene concerns, and the need to engage with traders and residents to address pressing environmental issues.
He expressed concern on the condition of the roads and market environments and ordered the immediate removal of sand piles on bridge walkways, clearing of bushes and grasses and painting of pedestrian paths to beautify and sanitize the area.
“Nigeria starts from Badagry. If we get it right here, the world will respect us,” the council boss said.
“Cleanliness at the border is not just for appearance, it’s for national pride, security, and dignity.”
“The condition at the Zongo abattoir is disappointing looking at the poor sanitary condition of the facility. The condition of this place is worse than expected. You must tile it for easy washing and clean it thoroughly and regularly. This is a matter of public health.”
“The J4/J5 market needs a new abattoir at the rear of the market to create a clear boundary between Hausa and Yoruba butchers.
“From what I’ve seen today, there’s a gap in what we expect and what’s being done. Our council will step in. Badagry West deserves to be clean every single day.”
