Residents of Isolo have heaved sigh of relief as Lagos State Emergency Flood Abatement (EFA) evacuated drains in industrial axis of the council area, along Chivita Avenue, Ajao Estate.
It was earlier believed that the drains were blocked with refuse caused flood in the area.
However, the agency discovered that the drains were not blocked by refuse but sand.
According to the EFA coordinator in Oshodi-Isolo, Mr. Adeniyi Dairo, the drains were blocked with heaps of sand, hindering free flow of water whenever it rains.
He emphasised that no refuse was found in the drains while evacuating them but heaps of sand.
He noted that the ongoing road construction works in the community also contributed to the deposition of sand in the drains.
Dairo promised that would do thorough evacuation starting from the canal side of the road down to canoe junction of Chivita Avenue axis to abet incessant flood ravaging the community.
Some of the residents who spoke to ECHONEWS said it was the first time the drains in the community would be desilted.
They stated that ever since the drains were constructed, they had never been opened for evacuation, noting that at any slight rainfall, the drains would fill up and eventually flood the community.
