Community dismisses Hausa traders from street

Afariogun Community Development Association (CDA) in conjunction with the landlords association has ordered about 30 Hausa traders selling yams at Olusoji Street to leave the community as a strategy to avoid insecurity.

The CDA, having sensed that the increasing number of the Hausas in the community might pose danger to the residents, said it was necessary to take the action before it went out of hand.

The CDA chairman, Mr. Jamiu Ayinla disclosed that many of the Hausas came into the community without the permission of the landlords, noting that it was only Mallam Umoru who was permitted to use the arena by the late Odunmbaku.

Ayinla stated that Mallam Umoru later brought in Sanusi who also brought others till the population increased to about 30 Mallams selling yams on the street of Olusoji.

He stated that the community leaders were not at peace with the high number of the Hausas in the area, explaining that the wife of the late Odunbakun has also warned Umoru several times to send others away but he refused to heed the warning.

According to the CDA chairman, nobody collected a dime from the Mallams as rent ever since they started using the street, stressing that their population has raised concerns.

He said the Mallams have not committed any crime though, the community members were afraid of the unknown circumstances as they did not know where they came from and they slept outside peoples’ compounds at night.

Meanwhile, the affected Hausas have taken the order in good faith and relocated to Sadiku Street to continue their business.

Ayinla also thanked the residents for their cooperation and prompt payment of the security bills, urging the defaulters to brace up so that the community would be properly guarded.
