The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, Honourable Ganiyu Egunjobi, has suspended food sales in schools in an attempt to curb cholera outbreak in the area.
The council boss disclosed that the measure is one of the necessary steps taken by the Local Government to ensure the safety of pupils as well as ensuring victory over the dreaded disease.
Egunjobi said that pupils are now encouraged to bring their meals from home.
The Chairman revealed that the council is also putting in efforts to sensitize market stakeholders and schools through radio campaigns to prevent the spread of cholera within the community. He emphasized on the importance of early detection and preventive measures to combat the disease
Egunjobi while informing that the Local Government has embarked on school’s inspection to ensure a clean environment disclosed that residents in the area have been urged to prioritize hygiene in food preparation and consumption. He emphasized the need for collaboration among various stakeholders, including landlord associations, to prevent further spread of the disease.
He also urged parents, guardians, religious leaders and other institutions not to desist from creating awareness on the significance of a healthy environment as a disease-free habitat is beneficial for all.
