Veteran entertainer and activist Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has shared details of an unexpected visit from former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi.
Taking to his X handle, Charly Boy recounted how Obi phoned him at about 1am to announce he would be stopping by his Lagos home around 5am. Despite the unusual timing, Charly Boy said he agreed to the visit.

According to him, Obi arrived carrying a large “Ghana Must Go” bag.

The activist admitted he initially wondered what was inside but chose not to ask.
The two men reportedly spent nearly two hours discussing politics, Nigeria’s future and family matters before Obi left. Only afterwards did Charly Boy decide to open the bag.

Inside, he found not cash or luxury items, but an assortment of fruits and local produce including pawpaw, mangoes, bananas, kola nuts, alligator pepper, roasted groundnuts and oranges all of which Obi had personally packed.

Quoting Obi, Charly Boy wrote in pidgin: “I no fit give you money, but I fit give you this one, na my hand pick.”

The gesture, Charly Boy said, spoke volumes about Obi’s humility and character.

Charly Boy, a staunch supporter of Obi and a prominent voice in the Obidient movement, campaigned vigorously for the Labour Party during the 2023 presidential elections.
