The change of Dele Awelewa Street, Ejigbo to John Kayode Obafemi Street, last year has been causing confusion for the residents and visitors trying to locate the street direction on the Google map.

A leader in the community, Asiwaju Kayode Obafemi, taskforce chairman, Bucknor CDA, confirmed that many people were faced with difficulties in finding their location on the street since the name was changed last year.

According to him, the major problem is that the new name is not yet on Google map which poses as problem to the visitors especially who come to the street for the first time, adding that many residents are also confused about the two names.

He stated that the certificate of the changed name was issued and that other documents were signed at the appropriate quarters both at the local and state levels which signified the street change of name.

He said the street has since last year got new name but it was noticed that the name has not been updated by the commission in charge at the state level which made it difficult to get the street name on the map of direction even when a cab or an online ride is needed.

“Also, the name has failed to reflect on the IKEDC metering and when we complain, the officials would ask for backup letters.”

Obafemi further stated that when they complained at the DPS department at state level, they were redirected to the local council street naming department, saying the department has not responded to their request.

He however sought the local government intervention on the issue, appealing to the department in charge to respond to their complaint.
