It was a gathering of political associates, community leaders, religious figures and residents of Oshodi/Isolo on Monday, March 30, 2026, as friends and supporters converged on Nnokwa Hall in Ejigbo, Lagos, to celebrate the 61st birthday of former Lagos State Commissioner and ex-Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Hon. Kehinde Bamigbetan (popularly known as KOK), while also marking the 74th birthday of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The event, which began with a red-carpet reception and musical performance by saxophonist Omotola Sax, drew dignitaries from across political, ethnic and religious divides who came to honour Bamigbetan’s decades of public service and to offer prayers for his next political aspiration.

Opening proceedings featured Christian and Muslim prayers led by Evangelist Ademola Olaiya and the Chief Imam of Ejigboland, Dr. Mukaila Sanni, followed by the rendition of the national and mandate anthems. In his welcome address, Otunba Jide Oni appreciated guests for honouring the invitation, describing the occasion as a celebration of leadership, service and continued commitment to community development.

Goodwill messages followed from representatives of Ejigbo and Isolo local governments as well as leaders of the Ndigbo, South-South and Arewa communities, reflecting Bamigbetan’s cross-cultural relationships within the constituency.

The programme also featured an inter-religious prayer session where clerics offered supplications for President Tinubu, Bamigbetan’s political journey, the forthcoming APC primary election and the peace and progress of Nigeria. Prayers were led by several Christian and Islamic leaders including Rev. Dr. Paul T.E. Adebayo, Prophetess Olabisi Awosanya, Prophet Ade Adewuyi and Islamic clerics such as Alhaji Abdul Fatai Shobajo and Alhaji Akeem of Ori-Oke.

In separate tributes, prominent personalities highlighted Bamigbetan’s long-standing career in journalism, governance and community leadership. Deputy Managing Director of THISDAY Newspaper, Mr. Kayode Komolafe, described him as a distinguished journalist whose transition into politics has been marked by widespread goodwill and acceptance.

Representing the Ndigbo community, Eze S. M. Nwoye commended Bamigbetan’s inclusive leadership, noting that he has consistently supported and empowered members of the Igbo community in Ejigbo without discrimination.

Similarly, the Atayeshe of Ejigbo, Alhaji Ahmed Balogun, praised Bamigbetan’s track record from his days as a local government chairman to his role as commissioner and special adviser, stating that the time had come for him to represent the constituency at the National Assembly.

Chief Ume Ugoriji also urged residents across ethnic lines to rally behind the celebrant, describing him as a dependable ally of the Igbo community who has always shown generosity and solidarity.

Family members also expressed gratitude during the celebration, with Mr. Gbemiga Bamigbetan, speaking on behalf of the family, thanking attendees for their show of love and support.

Adding a cultural dimension to the tributes, His Royal Majesty Igwe Olueze I of Anambra State revealed that he postponed a planned trip in order to attend the celebration, describing Bamigbetan as one of the strongest allies of the Igbo community in Lagos. The monarch disclosed that the celebrant had already been pencilled down for the prestigious Nwanne Di Namba chieftaincy title in recognition of his friendship and support.

During his remarks, Bamigbetan expressed gratitude to God for life and to supporters who gathered to celebrate with him. He also used the occasion to formally project his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat for Oshodi/Isolo Federal Constituency, pledging to continue his commitment to grassroots development and inclusive representation.

The celebration climaxed with the presentation and cutting of birthday cakes, a toast session and photo opportunities with guests, followed by a special empowerment segment from the celebrant and for TYM Ward Chairmen.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by former Secretary to the Local Government of Ejigbo LCDA, Deacon Paul Fregene, after which guests proceeded to a reception and networking session.
