Police Arrest NURTW Member, ‘Shamelon’,Over Murder of Adeshina
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon,” aged 55, in connection with two violent crimes on Lagos Island — the murder of a man identified as Adeshina and the assault of a dispatch rider.
According to the Command, the suspect is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, where discreet investigations are ongoing.
At about 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, Shamelon allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, using a helmet and his fists to inflict serious injuries. The victim was rushed to a hospital, placed on oxygen, and is still receiving medical treatment. Lagos Reporters had earlier reported the incident, which sparked outrage after a video surfaced showing Shamelon shoving aside a woman who tried to intervene while he and his gang were assaulting the dispatch rider.
Police also linked the suspect to an earlier incident on August 28, 2025, during which he allegedly used a metallic ring to repeatedly strike Adeshina on the head and face, leaving him with severe injuries. Despite medical intervention, Adeshina was confirmed dead on September 17, 2025. His remains have since been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Following news of his death, sympathizers mobilized and staged a violent protest at Shamelon’s office in Sandgrouse Market, Lagos Island. The mob set two motorcycles belonging to the suspect ablaze, sparking unrest in the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a team of police operatives including mobile policemen and conventional officers to restore normalcy to the troubled area.
The Police Command assured residents that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion, stressing that law and order must prevail on Lagos Island despite the activities of notorious individuals.
Lagos Reporters will continue to follow developments on this case and provide updates as they unfold.
