The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) has suspended the leader of the Lawmaking Arm, Hon. Remy Shittu Remy indefinitely.
According to the party Chairman, Barrister Gani Bello, who confirmed the development to ECHONEWS, the suspension is on the basis of Remy’s disobedience to the party’s directive to recall the two suspended councillors.
Bello noted that the party had tolerated Remy’s obstinacy enough as he has failed to recall the suspended members during three consecutive plenaries even though their suspension was ‘most flimsy and unreasonable.’
As earlier reported by ECHONEWS, the two councillors, Hon. Akeem Ayoola who represents Ilasamaja Ward and Hon. Olanrewaju Kayode who represents Alagbeji Ward were slammed with seven weeks suspension on Monday, March 1, 2021 while two others, Hon. Abiodun Odusina-Adeoye and Hon. Kanayo Osondu were fined following their absence from plenary on Thursday, February 25, 2021.
Although, Remy had earlier explained that the House acted on the standing order which stated that: “When the offence committed by a member appears to the leader to be of serious nature, the leader shall put the question on the motion being made, on which no debate, amendment or adjournment shall be allowed. “That such member be suspended from the service of the House and such suspension shall be for a period stated in the motion but which shall not exceed 14 legislative days.”
He also explained that following the party’s directive, the House had set up a committee to look into the process of recalling the suspended councillors and was on the verge of recalling them last Monday before the activities of the House was disrupted by some hoodlums who invaded the House.
According to Bello, “It is true, we’ve suspended him for being disobedient to party’s mandate. We gave him a directive to go and lift the suspension of his honourable colleagues on Monday, March 8. We gave him the directive on the third of March that he should reconvene the plenary and lift that suspension instead of complying with that order he set up a committee to review the directive of the party, that’s an insult. He did not recall them on that Monday, and even on Thursday, March 11. On Monday, March 15, he did not recall them and at each session, he also has a way to frustrate the proposal to recall them. On Monday, he encouraged the councillor from Ajao Estate that’s Hon. Chidiebere Iheasirim to move a motion for recess instead of lifting the suspension of his fellow councillors and the reason for the suspension was most flimsy and unreasonable.
“We told him to go and recall them, and that the should bound themselves together as one family. After giving the directive, I called him on several occasions that this is not what the party asked you to do, the party did not recommend a written apology, they can make verbal apology in the plenary of the house and they should be recalled back but you refused. He was always encouraging somebody to move the motion instead of recalling them.
“He has been suspended until he has shown remorse.”
As at the time of filing this reports efforts to reach Remy proved abortive as he did not pick calls from our correspondent.
