Bankole Olowookere Quits As Head Coach Of Osun Babes
By Saheed Afolabi
Bankole Olowookere has stepped down from his position as the Technical Adviser (head coach) of Osun Babes, a club in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
Olowookere was appointed to lead the team in November 2025. During his relatively short tenure, he made a positive impact on the squad despite facing significant challenges.
The coach cited the club’s failure to fulfill key financial commitments as the primary reason for his resignation. According to Olowookere, the management repeatedly promised to pay players, coaches salaries and bonuses but failed to deliver, even after multiple appeals and discussions were ignored.
He however wished the club all the best in their quest to retain their status as an elite club in Nigeria.
Before joining Osun Babes, Olowookere gained prominence in Nigerian women’s football through his work with Naija Ratels. He took over as head coach there and guided the team to impressive achievements in their debut season in the top flight:
He successfully led Naija Ratels to qualification for the NWFL Premiership Super Six playoff tournament. The team performed strongly overall during that campaign.
In 2024, he steered Naija Ratels to the final of the NFF Federation Cup (Women’s), where they narrowly lost 1-0 to Rivers Angels in the decisive match held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.
