The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Bamigboye has urged the Nigeria Immigration Service to establish a passport office in the local government to help members of his community have quick access.
The Chairman made this known yesterday when he hosted the Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service in Lagos State – CIS B.A Dangana, his deputy and members of the state officers in his office.
Bamigboye who gave a brief historical background of Mushin to the Comptroller and his team also took time to commend the rapid improvement in the issuance of passports to Nigerians with the new policy instituted by the new administration.
In his presentation the Comptroller commended the chairman for the reception he received right from the entrance point into the council secretariat, which is a reflection of good governance and indication that the chairman is a man of the people.
CID Dangana, who solicited the support of the chairman and the cooperation of his government to tackle the menace of illegal migrants from neighbouring countries who are constituting security threats to Nigeria and are currently operating in Lagos State as syndicate.
He advised that members of the community should be sensitised to identify and report strange and suspicious faces to the immigration office as measures have also been taken to prevent foreigners from obtaining a Nigerian passport.
While responding to questions and opinions of people about the services of Nigeria Immigration Service, the Comptroller enjoined the public to use the new platform to apply for passport as Local Government authorities will be fully integrated into the process through the issuance of certificates of recognition to applicants.
He requested office accommodation to enable his officials to operate effectively in Mushin Local Government. He also promised to tackle all the challenges and complaints of the people of Mushin about passport issuance through the office.
The Council Boss in his response, promised to give the officials of Nigeria Immigration Service, maximum co-operation and directed that their representative in Mushin be included in the security committee of the Local Government.
The Council Manager, Comrade Sogo Osikoya, who gave the vote of thanks, thanked the Comptroller and his team for the visit and assured them of total support from the chairman.
The visiting officer later presented the chairman with the emblem of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
