Bamigboye Flags off Cervical Cancer Vaccination

The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Mr. Emmanuel Bamigboye has joined the campaign towards protecting and securing the future of young girls against Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), which is known to cause at least 70% of cervical cancer.
The move was as part of government’s efforts to control the persistent mortality rate caused by cervical cancer among women in Mushin Local Government and the country at large.

The flag off of the imminzation was held at Megbon Primary Schoo, in Mushin Local Government with the Chairman of the council urging parents to  take  action against this fatal illness that threatens to take young girls’ lives and rob them of a happy future.

He further dispelled the myth and misleading impression being perpetrated against the vaccine. He  advised parents to ignore the information, saying that the vaccination has no negative effects on the girl child’s health.

The HPV vaccine which was introduced into the Routine Immunization System by the Federal Government on 24th October, 2023, to prevent Cervical Cancer among over 7.7 million girls between the ages of 9 – 14 years, was kicked off in Lagos by Wife of the Executive Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo – Olu, at Surulere on Monday 30th October, 2023.

Being the third most common cancer and second most frequent cause of cancer deaths among women between the ages of 15 – 44 years, cervical cancer has killed 8,000 Nigerian women out of the 12,000 cases recorded in the year 2020.

The five – day mass vaccination exercise which commenced on Monday 30th October will end on Friday 3rd November, 2023 and will be conducted on girls between the ages of 9 – 14 years, at various locations across the communities.

The Chairman also used the opportunity to thank Governor Babajide Sanwo Olu for his support towards grassroot development and other developmental projects aimed at making life better for the people of Lagos State.

The council boss also used the opportunity to inform the guests of the massive medical mission coming up before end of the year and other laboratory equipment being purchased to conduct quick medical tests for patients at all the Primary Health centres across Mushin.
