Badagry Declares Seven-Day Mourning for Akran Menu Toyi I

The Chairman of Badagry Local Government Area, Mr. Babatunde Hunpe, has declared a seven-day mourning period following the death of the Akran of Badagry, His Royal Majesty De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi I.
The announcement was made on Tuesday through a statement by Mr. Kriko Augustine, Chief Press Secretary to the LG chairman, with the approval of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
“With the approval of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, I officially announce with profound sorrow the passing of His Royal Majesty, De Wheno Aholu Menu Toyi I, the Akran of Badagry Kingdom,” the statement read.
Mr. Hunpe described the late monarch as a revered custodian of tradition, whose long and impactful reign was devoted to peace, unity, and the preservation of Badagry’s rich cultural heritage. He added that the Akran played a crucial role in linking the kingdom’s history with its future while providing moral guidance to his people.
“In solemn recognition of the life, service, and enduring legacy of our revered monarch and paramount ruler, I hereby declare seven days of mourning, during which the people of Badagry are enjoined to reflect on his selfless leadership, timeless values, and lifelong devotion to Badagry Local Government, Lagos State, and Nigeria at large,” Hunpe said.
The LG chairman also extended condolences to the royal family, the Council of Obas and Chiefs, and the people of Badagry and Lagos State, urging residents to honour the late Akran by reflecting on his exemplary life and leadership.
