Following a report last week by ECHONEWS that over 30 communities were in danger of flood, the authority of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government under the chairmanship of Hon. Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh has ordered the immediate evacuation of canals and rehabilitation of drainage to abate flood crisis in the local government area.
The exercise which started on Wednesday July 17, 2019 will continue until all drains are cleared.
Ariyoh said: “I assure the residents of quick clearing of canals, refuse and the completion of the ongoing gutter construction in the community and I promise that all drains within the community will be cleared as soon as possible.”
Canals evacuation began from Apakun, under DHL Bridge extending towards Oshodi road end point of the canal.
Residents and CDC leaders expressed their gratitude while appreciating the effort of the LG, appealing to the chairman to make the exercise an annual activity to help prevent floods afterwards.
Adewale Ayankunle, a resident of Odunmbaku street, jubilated over the evacuation process as he said: “Flood disturbs us whenever it rains and I am happy that action has started, let it just continue like that.”
