The Chairman of Itire-Ikate Local Council Development Area, Hon. Dr. Ahmed Olanrewaju (Apatira) has distributed school bags to public primary school pupils within the council area as a means of supporting them in their pursuit of a sound education.
The council boss, who was represented by the secretary to the local government, Hon. Kehinde Baruwa, said the gesture was aimed at fulfilling the statutory functions of his administration in the education sector.
He added that it was to meet the educational needs of the students and also ease struggling parents and guardians’ financial burden.
While listing some of the achievements recorded in the area of education, Apatira noted that he has made education a priority for his administration, saying it is the bedrock of the nation and the best investment for a child.
Some of the achievements he listed include the renovation of dilapidated blocks of classrooms and toilets at Duro-Oyedoyin Primary School, provision of notebooks, school sandals, bags, desks, chairs, provision of tuition free scholarships for indigent students, annual distribution of JAMB and GCE forms.
“The drive behind giving the school bags is nothing short of the fact that most students go to schools with polythene bags, some don’t even have anything to carry their books which makes the books get tattered and as a responsive government, this could be a way of supporting the parents. It is also a motivation for the students to put more interest in their studies,” he said.
Supervisor for Education, Prince Yomi Lawrence while speaking at the event commended the council chairman for the benevolence as he encouraged the pupils to remain focused in their educational pursuits and strive for excellence while urging them to make judicious use of the bags in order to improve in their studies.
The beneficiaries include pupils of Aguntasholo Primary school, Animashaun Primary School, Odo-Olowu Primary School, Sijuade Primary School, Duro-Oyedoyin Primary School, Ijeshatedo Primary School, Akanji Primary School, Erinosho Primary School and Immam Shuaib Primary School.
