Alleged N76bn Fraud: Court Issues Bench Warrant Against Former AMCOM Director

Erstwhile Managing Director of Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria, AMCOM, Ahmed Kuru, has been issued a bench warrant following his alleged involvement in a fraudulent deal worth N76 billion.
The warrant was issued at the Special Offences Court in Lagos on Thursday .
The allegation was also imposed on other suspects : former Receiver Manager of Arik Airline Limited, Kamilu Omokide; the Chief Executive Officer of the airline, Roy Ilegbodu, Union Bank Limited and Super Bravo Limited – all facing charges of alleged theft, abuse of office, making false statements to public officers, and dishonestly taking property of another.
Justice Mojisola Dada set aside the bench warrant against Kuru after the filing of a motion on notice by his counsel, Olasupo Shasore, SAN.
Shasore, in the notice dated December 12 promised that his client would be present in court throughout his trial.
EFCC Counsel, Wahab Shittu, SAN, did not oppose the application. He acknowledged Shasore’s undertaking to produce the defendant for arraignment.
“My lord, if the learned silk is assuring the court that the second defendant will be available on January 20 for his arraignment, we will not be objecting to the application,” said Shittu.
“Knowing the consequences of the undertaking, the prosecution will not object to the revocation of the bench warrant.”
Justice Dada adjourned the case till January 20, 2025.
