The Chairman of Alimosho Local Government Area, Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, has received the newly posted Commander of the 041 Communication Information System Depot, Shasha, D.U. Edet, during a courtesy visit at the council secretariat.

The visit marked the first official engagement between the new commander and the local government leadership since his assumption of duty at the Shasha Air Force Base.

Speaking during the meeting, Edet said the visit was aimed at formally introducing himself and strengthening the long-standing partnership between the base and the local government.

According to him, the engagement also sought to expand cooperation in critical areas such as agriculture, community development and security.

“We are here on a familiarisation visit as the new head of the Shasha Air Force Base. The visit is to strengthen our relationship with the local government, appreciate the support previously given to the base, and further deepen collaboration in security,” he said.

Edet also commended the chairman for supporting agricultural initiatives within the base, particularly projects aimed at improving farming activities.

Responding, Johnson welcomed the commander and reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to sustaining its partnership with the Nigerian Air Force facility.

He noted that the council had maintained a productive relationship with previous commanders and expressed optimism that the collaboration would continue to grow.

The chairman also highlighted several support initiatives the council plans to extend to the base, including the provision of a cassava processing plant, boreholes within farm settlements, improved street lighting along the road leading to the base and rehabilitation of the access road.

Johnson explained that once the cassava processing plant becomes operational, the council intends to source garri produced by farmers within the base for its subsidised food programme known as the “Ounje Alimosho” initiative.

He added that members of the base community would also benefit from the council’s empowerment programmes, including its ₦100,000 social intervention scheme and vocational training initiatives.

The chairman, however, urged the commander to strengthen intelligence monitoring following reports of a planned solidarity rally by some individuals within the local government area in support of Iran and its late leader.

According to him, proactive measures would help prevent any activity that could threaten the peace and stability currently enjoyed in the area.

Johnson emphasised that maintaining security and social harmony in the community remained a shared responsibility between the local government and security agencies.
