The Christian community of Alimosho Local Government on Wednesday held a Christmas Carol and End-of-Year Thanksgiving Service to thank God for His faithfulness throughout 2025 and to usher in the New Year 2026 with prayers.
The programme was well attended by members of the local Christian community, as well as government officials, including Executive Chairman Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, Vice Chairman Hon. Adebisi Francis Atoyebi, and council staff.
In his address, Chairman Johnson emphasized that the occasion was a moment of gratitude rather than politics or official engagements.
“Today is not a day for official talk, but a day to thank Almighty God and appreciate Him for all His blessings in our lives,” he said. “Being at the helm of affairs in Alimosho today calls for thanksgiving. It is not by my might, but through God’s benevolence.”
The chairman urged residents to remain thankful for the gift of life, highlighting that life itself is by divine grace. “We should give thanks to God for sparing our lives up to this day. Some have passed on—not because they sinned—but because God knows best,” he added.
He also encouraged a culture of giving and caring for the less privileged, stressing that social responsibility should not rest on government alone. “Helping the less privileged should not be seen as the responsibility of government alone. As individuals, we can do our part. Cultivating the habit of giving is one of the best philosophies anyone can instill in themselves,” he said.
Chairman Johnson further encouraged residents to prioritize their health through routine medical check-ups, noting that his administration places high importance on the wellbeing of council workers. He concluded by wishing all residents and staff a joyful Christmas and a prosperous New Year 2026.
Vice Chairman Adebisi Francis Atoyebi highlighted the importance of praising God at all times, quoting Psalm 150:1–6 and underscoring that thanksgiving and praise are central to Christian faith and living.
The Christmas Carol marks the first official activity signaling the start of end-of-year celebrations in Alimosho Local Government.
