The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) on Monday commenced enforcement against indiscriminate parking within the State Secretariat in Alausa, as part of efforts to eliminate traffic congestion in the area.

LASPA’s Monitoring and Enforcement Team stormed the Secretariat and issued removal notices to vehicles parked improperly on kerbs, walkways, in double-parked positions, and in areas marked with “No Parking” signs.

The Authority also observed that some vehicle owners though not officials of the State Government, regularly use the Secretariat premises for parking due to the proximity of their offices. This practice, LASPA noted, overstretches the available parking infrastructure within the Secretariat.

As part of the exercise, LASPA issued a 24-hour ultimatum to the owners of vehicles violating the State Parking Regulations to evacuate their vehicles or face towing.

It will be recalled that the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, during the July Monthly Walk for Fitness Exercise organized by the Office of the Head of Service, had directed LASPA to begin enforcing parking regulations within the State Secretariat in Ikeja and the Old Secretariat, with plans to extend the enforcement across the state.

LASPA has urged all Lagos residents to comply with the State Parking Regulations by adopting a responsible parking culture, obeying signage and avoiding traffic obstructions, adding that the crackdown on indiscriminate parking has officially begun.
