The Lagos Commissioner for Wealth Creations and Employment, Mr. Akinyemi Ajigbotafe has pledged that his ministry will launch initiatives to help young people without jobs find fulfilling employment to lift Lagos residents out of poverty.
Ajigbotafe gave a speech while giving a tour of the ministry’s office in the local government of Oshodi-Isolo on Wednesday.
The commissioner lauded the council’s office setting and committed to working toward increasing its potential for human growth.
Speaking on his ministry’s strategy to get young people off the streets, Ajigbotafe stated that the government is working with foreign organizations and the business sector to provide the youths with job training and opportunities.
He said; “the office space provided and set-up in Oshodi is a good one, we have been at the helm of affairs for a while, so I came to check how the office looks so as to make them work effectively. I am not disappointed with the office settings, though there are one or two things to put in place and that is exactly why I have come to see to how our workers live and work here. I am not surprised with what we met.
We have plans to employ a lot of youths and take them out of the streets and that is why I have come to see this place to know its capacity and how it can accommodate our youths.
In taken youths out of the streets, we have partnered the private sectors and international organisations to get our youths involved in skills and employment.”
Advising the youths, Ajigbotafe said; “the youth should not give up, we are going to work with them for a secured and better future.”
The commissioner was conducted round the office by the Oshodi-Isolo local government Vice chairman, Mrs Islamiyah Modupe Aregbe- Badmus.
The council vice who acted on behalf of the coucil chairman, Mr. Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede assured the commissioner of cooperation and support for the ministry to make jobs available for the youths.
