As part of efforts to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 and its emerging variants in the community, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Ago-Okota Division has continue to educate community residents on preventive measures.
To complement its sensitization exercise, the committee distributed flyers which contained the detailed preventive measures and the directives of the Lagos State Government.
Speaking with ECHONEWS, the Committee Chairman, Alhaji Musibau Alebiosu, explained that the programme was a directive from the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, noting that the effort became necessary to warn the residents against flouting the  government’s directives as many people refuse to comply with the Covid-19 rules.
Although Okota was one of the centres of the pandemic in the community during the first wave, Alebiosu observed that residents of the community have improved on their level of compliance, saying the sensitisation exercise will further encourage them to sustain their compliance.
“The awareness exercise is very important, it’s a directive from the state government; from the commissioner of police that we should enlighten the people on the second wave of the pandemic and warn them to comply with the protocols.
“It’s an awareness exercise for people to sustain their consciousness of the virus because it is still very much with us and I’m hopeful that our people will exhibit greater level of precautions and observe the protocols which include wearing of facemask, maintaining social distancing, regular hand washing with alcohol based hand sanitizer and clean water and that they should not go out if it is not necessary,” he said.
He said the police officers from the division also supported them in carrying out the exercise.
