AFCON 2025: Nigeria Vs Tanzania Preview

Nigeria will trade tackles with Tanzania in the blockbuster Group C opening game of the 2025 Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) at the Fez stadium, Fes.
The two nations have only faced each other twice in previous games where the Super Eagles won 1-0 at Uyo in 2015 and drew 0-0 with the Taifa Stars at Dar es Salaam in 2016.
Tanzania who will be making their second consecutive appearance at the continental showpiece came second in the AFCON qualifiers in group H with ten points from six matches thereby, leaving DR Congo to top the group with 12 points from six games.
Nigeria however topped group D in the AFCON qualifiers with 11 points from six encounters.
The Super Eagles will be making their 21st appearance at the 2025 AFCON while amassing 57 wins, drawing 24 and seeing loses in 24 games at previous editions of the Africa biggest sport event.
Tazania have never won any game in the AFCON, while raking in six losses and three draws in three editions.
The Eagles would be banking on inform goal poacher, Victor Osimhen, Atalanta winger, skipper, Wilfred Ndidi decisive passes and Turkey based forward, Paul Onuachu who’s having a redemption in the Turkish League which prompted his call up to the team.
The Taifa Stars are anchored by the experience of Mbwana Samatta, Le Havre captain who boasts of 85 caps and 22 goals, forward, Simon Msuva is also an integral part of Tazania who has scored 24 goals in 94 games. Feisal Salum commands the midfield for the East African side.
As the giant of the group, Nigeria are favourites to win the game while as underdogs, Tazania are looking out for their first AFCON win.
The Super Eagles will clash with the Taifa Stars at the Fez stadium, Fes on Tuesday, December 23 at 6:30pm indigenous time.
