As part of their effort to clean the environment, members of the Afariogun Community Development Association (CDA) have cleared the weeds that have taken over Afariogun Primary School compound to avoid reptiles invading the compound ahead of the school’s resumption.
The CDA said the exercise was a selfless service to the community to maintain healthy environment and their contribution to the school which serves as its meeting venue.
The exercise commenced on Monday last week with the inspection of the school compound while the CDA executive members led by the chairman, Mr. Jamiu Ayinla followed by the cutting of the weeds on Tuesday through Friday.
He said: “We the executive members agreed that we should take it upon ourselves to clear the weeds that are fast taking over our primary school which also serves as our meeting venue. It will not be pleasant to leave the bush clearing for the primary school pupils until their resumption because it would have been over grown for them to handle and reptiles might even find their abodes in the bushes which would be dangerous to them.”
The participants also discussed other developmental issues including provision of additional water tank for the school and regular water supply.
After the clearing exercise which was carried out for a week, the councillor representing Afariogun Ward, Hon. Mohammed Rasaq, who inspected the work done by the CDA in the school on Friday, urged the residents to continue to maintain healthy life style and ensure they adhere to the government policy on usage of face masks and other covid-19 preventive measures.
