Adeoye Abiodun Shares Remarkable Impacts Of Afusat Olabimpe Abiodun Female Gold Cup

Convener of the Afusat Olabimpe Abiodun Female Gold Cup, Mr Adeoye Abiodun has revealed the impacts of the noble women’s football competition that’s has garnered widespread acceptance over the years.
The tournament which have witnessed past winners, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, Unification Ladies and 2025 winners, Victory Queens.
Adeoye said the competition has since advanced significant growth and improvement since coming into existence four years ago.
The Lagos FA board member has projected the future of the tournament is to see players who have played the competition represent Nigeria at the biggest stage in the World.
“There is a significant improvement by the 16 teams that participated in the competition. We are so glad to see participation from clubs and the bond shared.
“Our projection is seeing players that played this tournament going professional and representing Nigeria at the national team level and ultimately playing at the Olympics and the World Cup. The girl that won the MVP last season is now playing in the Egyptian Premier League.
“We have done 16 teams and hopefully in the next few years we can expand it to 32 teams. We also try to increase the prize money too.”
The Lagos FA board member disclosed the competition will be expanded to accommodate more teams in the future while the MVP of the tournament will be given the opportunity to further her career in Egypt and Saudi Arabia.
“The player of the tournament will be given the opportunity of signing for a Premier League club either in the Egypt or Saudi Arabia. We are increasing the prize money yearly and also the individual money for the POTM from the quarter final all the way to the final. The referee and coach of the tournament are also rewarded.
“Our focus is for grassroots development. The clubs participating in the competition are not Premier League clubs. We want to make sure we grow more grassroots clubs.”
