The Lagos West Senatorial candidate under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mrs. Idiat Adebule, has advised youths in Ojo area of the state on their self-development plan, while charging them to set goals for themselves to be pursued in the New Year.
She said that it is not just all about setting fascinating goals as most people deviate from their so-called goals by the end of March as reality begins to tell on them.
Adebule advised that before setting a goal, individuals should define their goals to have focus.
She gave an instance of a common trend among youths over job opportunities where they set a goal to “find a better job”.
She said every individual has their definition of what a “better job” is. To some people it is just to be able to feed themselves while to others it is to cater for their well-being and relatives without going beyond the scope of the present or thinking of the future.
Adebule suggested that in making an achievable goal, individuals should answer the questions of who, what, when and where as identification of being specific in making a smart goal.
She said that ensuring that one’s goal is measurable enables one to know the timeframe needed in achieving set goals rather than procrastinating and extensively extending them when they are non-achievable as reality begins to tell.
She, however, emphasized that individuals should note if their set goals are attainable given their current circumstances, stating that one of the reasons some people do not achieve their goals is because they set things that they cannot achieve given their current status.
