It was celebration time on Monday as Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who represents Lagos East Senatorial District, toured several newly completed roads facilitated through his office.

Communities came alive with joy as residents, leaders, and motorists welcomed the Senator, thanking him for fixing roads that had long been in bad shape.

The completed roads include: Ojokoro Road (Agric), Nurudeen Owolabi, Alogba (Lowa), Apena Jimbo, Jalajugbo, Ibu Owo, Agunfoye, Ojediran, and Andu/Oshikoya.

More projects are also lined up before the year ends. Some of the areas are: Soji Oshodi/Mutairu/Okeme Street, Pedro (Somolu/Bariga), Olulonyo-Ebuwawa Road (Ikorodu North), Utuh Street, Akanimodo (Mile 12, Agboyi-Ketu), Ondo Street, Ajegunle (Agboyi-Ketu), Otolu-Ilagbo (Lekki), Rala/Oshokeji Street (Epe), GRA 2 Road Alogba, Dagbolu Road, Sikiru Musa Road Ibonwon (Eredo), Ojuemuren Road linking Ita-Oloja/Express Road (Ikorodu North), and Francis Okon Street linking Ijede Road to the Ikorodu/Itoikin Highway. Second phases of Ojokoro and Agunfoye roads are also planned.

Speaking during the tour, Senator Abiru said the projects were based on consultations with community leaders and residents. He explained that the aim is to reduce hardship, open up communities for economic growth, and provide residents with decent living environments.

“I am encouraged by the positive feedback, and even more determined to do more,” the Senator said.

Community leaders praised the Senator’s efforts. One of them, 92-year-old Alhaji Jimoh Folorunsho Alogba, said: “We never thought we would see this road fixed in record time. Senator Abiru has given us hope that responsive leadership still exists.”

Another resident, Mutiu Abiodun Banjo, described Abiru as a “listening representative,” saying the project was completed soon after they raised the issue.

Senator Abiru also urged residents to take ownership of the projects by ensuring proper use and community-driven maintenance. He stressed that leaders and citizens must work together for sustainable progress.

Beyond roads, Abiru has also supported education, health, empowerment, and social welfare through his SAIL Empowerment Foundation, where hundreds of young people have been trained in digital and tech skills and many placed in jobs.

With more projects on the way, residents say Senator Abiru’s DoingGood mantra is proving to be more than just words.
