A dispatch rider has been killed in a fatal road accident after two trucks reportedly collided while their drivers were struggling for the right of way at Ijesha, inward Mile 2, Lagos.
The accident occurred on Saturday, August 22, 2026, and prompted an immediate response from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) Eagle Response Team.
According to LASEMA, the crash involved a FAW truck with registration number T-30364LA, an Iveco truck with registration number KSF 958 XV and a dispatch rider.
Preliminary investigations by emergency responders indicated that reckless driving and wrongful use of the road by the two truck drivers contributed to the crash. The FAW truck reportedly collided with the Iveco truck while both drivers were struggling for the right of way.
The impact caused the Iveco truck to hit the dispatch rider from behind, resulting in his death.
Following the crash, officers of the Nigeria Police Force from the Okota Division evacuated the victim’s remains and deposited them at a morgue for identification and other necessary procedures.
The two trucks were subsequently moved to a designated lay-by away from the main carriageway to ease traffic congestion and prevent further danger to motorists.
The emergency response involved personnel from LASEMA’s Eagle Response Team and the Nigeria Police Force. The operation was later concluded, with the affected section of the road declared safe for motorists and other road users.
The Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased dispatch rider and prayed for the repose of his soul.
Oke-Osanyintolu also stressed the importance of protecting vulnerable road users, particularly dispatch riders and pedestrians, while urging commercial drivers to avoid reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and competing for road space.
He reiterated that road safety remains a shared responsibility, noting that strict compliance with traffic regulations is essential to preventing avoidable deaths on Lagos roads.
