Senegal Hold Record For Biggest African Win At The World Cup
By Saheed Afolabi
Senegal have set a new benchmark for African teams at the World Cup as they recorded biggest win with the 5-0 thrashing of Iraq in their final Group stage match at the 2026 tournament.
The emphatic victory surpasses the previous record of 4-0, which was jointly held by Algeria against South Korea and Morocco against Haiti.
The dominant performance came at a crucial moment for Senegal, who had lost their opening two matches against France and Norway. The big win lifted them to three points and a positive goal difference, securing their place in the Round of 32 as one of the best third-placed teams.
With this historic result, Senegal have not only rewritten the African record books but also kept their knockout-stage dreams alive in dramatic fashion.
