In a decisive move to strengthen governance and promote accountability, the Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area recently inaugurated its full roster of statutory committees while stepping up efforts to ensure strict compliance with public procurement standards.
The high-profile ceremony, held at the Council Secretariat on February 12, 2026, brought together top council officials, lawmakers, department heads, and directors, underscoring a united commitment to institutional reform and transparent administration. Presiding over the event was Hon. Isiaka Yusuf Olatunji, Vice Chairman of the council, joined by the Leader of the House, Hon. Olayinka Mojeed Oluwafemi, and the Chief of Staff, Hon. Issa Moruf Olayinka.
Council leaders highlighted that the statutory committees would serve as critical instruments for accountability, playing key roles in budgetary oversight, contract approvals, and overall governance. By strengthening committee frameworks, the council aims to ensure that decision-making processes are streamlined, transparent, and fully aligned with the Public Procurement Act, which mandates competitive and efficient management of public resources.
The inauguration was complemented by a sensitisation session designed to educate council members and staff on procurement compliance. The programme focused on best practices, regulatory standards, and strategies to prevent irregularities in government contracts, reinforcing the council’s commitment to good governance.
Observers note that the initiative comes at a pivotal time for the Ibeju Lekki axis, which is experiencing rapid development with key projects such as the deep sea port, industrial zones, and other investment hubs. Strengthened committee structures and improved procurement oversight are expected to enhance investor confidence, safeguard public funds, and ensure that development projects are delivered effectively.
With statutory committees now operational and procurement compliance firmly in focus, Ibeju Lekki Local Government is positioning itself as a model for transparent, accountable, and responsive governance, setting the stage for improved service delivery and sustainable development for residents.
